Upper Arlington residents can donate walkers, canes and other mobility equipment at a drive-thru collection event Thursday, Nov. 19. The drop-off runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Fire Station 72, 3861 Reed Road.

UA CARES, the city's community para-medicine program, is using the donations to build a durable medical equipment loan closet. The goal, according to the city's announcement, is to let residents borrow basic mobility aids during short-term recovery instead of purchasing them.

The program accepts new or like-new standard walkers, rollators and canes. Shower chairs and portable commodes must be new. All items should be clean and ready for use.

Used shower chairs, used commodes, incontinence garments and worn-out equipment will not be accepted.

UA CARES stands for Community Assistance, Referrals and Education Services. Run through the Upper Arlington Fire Division, the program focuses on injury prevention, education and connecting residents with health care resources, according to the program's webpage. Services are available to Upper Arlington residents of all ages.

Residents with questions can reach UA CARES at 614-583-5352.
