Upper Arlington's Bob Crane Community Center will shut its doors for a full week starting Sept. 8 for deep cleaning, equipment inspections and staff training.
The facility at 3200 Tremont Rd. will reopen with normal hours on Sept. 16, according to a city announcement.
The planned closure, which the city said will occur each year in early fall, gives crews dedicated time to complete work that cannot be done safely while the building is open to the public. Tasks include routine and preventive maintenance, repairs and facility improvements, and larger improvement projects when applicable.
What members need to know
Monthly unlimited Fitness Pass holders will automatically receive a prorated September fee. No action is required.
General memberships will not be prorated. The city said the work directly benefits members and helps maintain the facility for the long term.
The OSU Wexner Medical Center, located inside the building, will remain open for most scheduled patient appointments during the closure. Patients should attend scheduled appointments unless contacted directly by the medical center.
Community Center phones will be staffed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays during the closure for questions or registration help.
A busy first year
The more than 165,000-square-foot center opened in April 2025 and has drawn more than 12,000 members, the City of Upper Arlington said on X on April 7. The facility was recognized statewide by the Ohio City/County Managers Association in March.
City Manager Steve Schoeny called the center a model of community-driven planning in a July 17 announcement about the city's broader Master Plan Update, saying the facility "stands out as prime example of what can be achieved when residents are an integral part of a strategic planning process."
A Bob Crane Community Center Satisfaction Survey is scheduled for Sept. 21 through Oct. 9 as part of that Master Plan Update process.
