An Upper Arlington bakery's beaver-shaped cookies have gone national, drawing orders from North Carolina, Florida and Texas while the trademark fight that inspired them intensifies.

The Original Goodie Shop at 2116 Tremont Center sold more than 750 of its $3 Beaver's Mini Mart cookies by Aug. 6, co-owner Emilie Smith told NBC4. As we reported Aug. 5, the bakery launched the fundraiser that day, donating $1 from each cookie to help the Beavercreek convenience store cover legal costs in its federal dispute with Texas-based gas station chain Buc-ee's.

The first batch of 24 cookies sold out within hours, 614Now reported. An Instagram post about the effort drew more than 6,000 likes in less than a day.

"I feel like there was an injustice here and the little mini mart was being bullied by a giant corporation, so we decided to do some cookies," Smith said.

Buc-ee's responds

Buc-ee's issued a formal statement Aug. 7, defending the lawsuit. The company said it first learned of Beaver's Mini Mart on Oct. 23, 2025, when owner Vikramjit Boparai filed an Ohio trade name registration. Buc-ee's said it sent FedEx letters on March 5 and April 21 and made an in-person visit to the Beavercreek store on June 11, receiving no response each time, according to 10TV.

CEO Arch Aplin told WHIO the company took "no pleasure" in filing the suit but said it had no choice. Aplin said that if Boparai withdraws the trade name registration, Buc-ee's would immediately drop the case.

Boparai disputed that framing. He said in a statement that he filed the registration at his bank's request so the store could continue depositing credit card payments under its business name, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported. Beaver's Mini Mart has four employees and is one of five stores his family operates. Its sign has been up since 2019, years before Buc-ee's opened its first Ohio location in Huber Heights in April.

Governor weighs in

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine called the lawsuit "ridiculous" while speaking with reporters Aug. 6, MLive reported. DeWine said he does not believe customers would confuse the two logos and urged Buc-ee's to dismiss the case.

A GoFundMe for Beaver's Mini Mart's legal fees has raised more than $47,000, surpassing its $45,000 goal.

What's next

An attorney for Beaver's Mini Mart contacted Buc-ee's shortly after 6 p.m. Friday, saying the store was ready to talk, according to WHIO. The federal case, filed July 28 in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, remains pending with no hearing date announced.
