Grandview Heights City Council picked Craig Diaz and Rick Kinsinger from a field of 21 applicants to fill two vacant seats.

Council made the appointments at its Monday, Oct. 26, meeting, according to a city announcement. Both members will be sworn in Nov. 9 and will serve through Dec. 31, 2027.

The seats opened after two council members resigned weeks apart. Michelle Kozak resigned Sept. 30. Melanie Houston resigned Oct. 13. The city's announcement did not state reasons for either departure.

Twenty-one residents applied for the two openings. Council President Emily Keeler said in the announcement that the response was a record, calling the applicant pool "many highly qualified individuals" who showed "the strength of our community and the dedication of residents who want to make a difference."

An Oct. 19 council meeting agenda listed only an executive session under Ohio Revised Code 121.22(G)(1), which covers the appointment of a public employee or official, followed by adjournment. No other business appeared on that agenda. The meeting was held at the City Hall, Police and Fire Municipal Complex at 1525 Goodale Blvd.

Diaz has lived in Grandview Heights for eight years. The city described him as having 15 years of leadership experience in community engagement, philanthropy and nonprofit fundraising.

Kinsinger has lived in the city since 2007 and has served on the Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) since April 2017. He is a licensed professional engineer. The city's announcement also described him as active with K-Tribes and community events throughout Grandview Heights.

Keeler said she and her colleagues look forward to working with the two new members "as we continue serving the residents of Grandview Heights."

The swearing-in is scheduled for the Nov. 9 council meeting at 1525 Goodale Blvd.
