Grandview Heights is replacing its 100-year-old Stevenson Elementary with a new building at 1065 Oxley Road, funded by the $69.5 million bond issue voters approved in November 2024.

Contractor Elford, Inc. posts weekly progress summaries to the district website.

While the school takes shape, Stevenson students are spending the 2026-27 year in modular classrooms at Larson Middle School, 1600 W. First Avenue. The school board approved a lease with Mobile Modular Management Corp. not to exceed $670,160 for 16 months.

Superintendent Andy Culp described the old building's condition in a March 5 CityScene Magazine feature: "The building is past its useful life and failing. (It has) leaky roofs, the boiler system is hanging on by a thread … It is in dire need of being replaced."

The new school will include open-concept classrooms, a gymnasium designed for community use, a media center and a cafeteria with a performance stage, according to CityScene Magazine. Safety upgrades include cameras and double doors at the main entrance.

One piece of history is waiting in storage. The "Big Cheese," a concrete sculpture where generations of students played before school, will be reinstalled at the new building.

The district posts weekly construction updates on its facilities page.
