Upper Arlington released new playground renderings for Fancyburg Park, with construction scheduled to begin in spring 2027 and a public feedback survey now open.
The city announced Thursday, Oct. 8 that the playground design is nearing completion after more than a year of community input. Eleven renderings are posted on the project webpage, showing the layout and features planned for the 25-acre park at 3375 Kioka Ave. in the River Ridge neighborhood.
The design reflects what residents asked for during two rounds of public outreach that drew more than 1,500 responses. Priorities included a natural look that blends with the park's existing trees, steel and fabric play structures chosen for durability and built-in shade, and inclusive equipment for different age groups. The plan includes swings, climbing structures, slides and themed interactive activities. The new playground will sit next to a nature play area.
The Edge Group, a Columbus-based landscape architecture and urban design firm, has led the master planning process since 2025. Upper Arlington City Council passed a resolution of support for the master plan in September 2025. Funding is scheduled within the 2027 and 2028 Parks Capital Improvements Program.
The broader Fancyburg Park overhaul goes beyond the playground. The master plan calls for a new four-season shelter that could serve as a day camp location, meadow plantings and naturalized areas, and relocating the maintenance yard to free up space in the park's center.
Residents can view the renderings and take the playground survey at the city's Fancyburg Park Master Plan page. The survey closes Sunday, Oct. 25.
