The Grandview Heights girls varsity tennis team dropped its season opener 5-0 at Bexley on Aug. 24.
Two matches went the distance.
Ella Knouff, playing first singles, pushed Bexley's Gockstetter to three sets before falling 6-1, 4-6, 6-3, according to the Grandview Heights athletics department. Knouff took the second set after dropping the first, forcing a decisive third that Bexley's Gockstetter won 6-3.
At first doubles, Maura Yates and Elin Amicon also extended their match to three sets against Bexley's P. Theile and Keenan. The Grandview pair dropped the first set 6-2, rallied to take the second 6-4, then fell 6-2 in the third.
The remaining courts fell in straight sets. Millie Chrstos lost 6-0, 6-2 at second singles, and Isla Swisher dropped her third singles match 6-4, 6-2. At second doubles, Claire Grime and Harper Cunningham lost 7-5, 6-2.
Swisher and the Grime-Cunningham pair kept their opening sets competitive. Swisher lost 6-4 and Grime and Cunningham fell 7-5 before both courts were closed out 6-2 in the second set.
The Lady Bobcats host Bloom-Carroll on Sept. 2 at 4:30 p.m. at McKinley Field's Urlin Tennis Courts, 1661 Goodale Blvd.
