Drivers and families in Grandview Heights should plan for road closures Sept. 5, when the eighth annual TRI the Heights Youth Triathlon sends hundreds of young swimmers, cyclists and runners through city streets on a new course.
Construction on Cambridge Blvd. forced organizers to reroute this year's bike leg onto Arlington Ave., the City of Grandview Heights announced in a traffic advisory published Aug. 6.
Arlington Ave. will close from about 8 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. and reopen progressively as older participants finish. Broader closures across the racecourse take effect at 7:30 a.m. and lift by noon.
What's closed
The full list of street closures, according to the city:
- Goodale Blvd. between Lincoln Rd. and Quay Ave.
- Lincoln Rd. between Goodale Blvd. and First Ave.
- First Ave. between Lincoln Rd. and Arlington Ave.
- Arlington Ave. between First Ave. and Fifth Ave.
- Grandview Ave. between Terrace Dr. and City View Dr.
No parking is allowed on the racecourse beginning at 6 a.m.
Three traffic crossovers will remain open for drivers needing to pass through: Urlin Ave. at Goodale Blvd., Third Ave. at Arlington Ave. and Cambridge Blvd. at First Ave.
The race
The triathlon, organized by HFP Racing, is open to kids ages 3 to 17. Participants swim at the Grandview Heights Municipal Pool on Goodale Blvd., bike a closed street course and run a paved trail to the finish at Wyman Woods Park. Distances are scaled by age group, and participants age 5 may use training wheels.
The city encouraged families to sign up any child who can swim, bike and run, promoting the event on its official Facebook page as a way to introduce young athletes to the sport.
