Upper Arlington swimmers planning one last weekend at Tremont Pool before Labor Day will find limited hours Aug. 28 through Aug. 30.

Open swim is canceled Friday and Saturday. The pool will be available only for lap swim and water walking from 6:30 to 10:30 a.m. both days. Sunday's schedule flips: no morning hours, but open swim returns from 2 to 6 p.m.

The reason is straightforward.

High school staffers who keep the pool running during back-to-school season are heading back to class, and the city said it does not have enough staff to operate during standard hours.

The city's alert posted Aug. 21 noted that the typical back-to-school schedule will resume Aug. 31. That schedule, in effect through Labor Day on Sept. 7, includes weekday open swim from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., Saturday open swim from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday open swim from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The weekday afternoon open swim window is new this season.

Upper Arlington Parks & Recreation had flagged the possibility of staffing-driven adjustments in its July 28 back-to-school pool announcement, noting it reserved the right to modify hours as availability dictated.

Traffic note for Saturday swimmers: Cycle UA, the city's annual community bike ride, takes place at Northam Park on Saturday, Aug. 29 from 9:30 a.m. to noon. The city warned that the event may affect traffic and parking near Tremont Pool. Riders can choose 5-mile, 10-mile or 15-mile routes; pre-registration is required and helmets are mandatory. Details are on the city's Cycle UA page.
