UA asks residents to report storm damage at 614-459-2800

Upper Arlington is directing residents to report remaining storm damage Aug. 12, one day after severe storms knocked out power, blocked roads and dropped a tree onto a police cruiser.

The city is asking anyone who spots damage not yet shown on its live storm damage map to call the Upper Arlington Police Division's non-emergency line at 614-459-2800. City crews were responding to damage reports Tuesday, and the city posted that the map tracks reported issues and locations where crews are working.

The city also warned that some traffic signals remain non-functional. Drivers should treat any intersection with a dark or flashing signal as a four-way stop and use extreme caution.

What happened Tuesday

Trees and debris fell throughout the community, blocking roads and neighborhood streets, and power went out in multiple areas. Police and fire crews responded to numerous calls simultaneously, according to the City of Upper Arlington.

Near Riverside Drive and McCoy Road, a tree fell directly onto a police cruiser. The officer inside was not injured, the Upper Arlington Police Division confirmed on X.

The storm was part of a broader severe weather event across central Ohio. Nearly 100,000 Franklin County customers lost power at the storm's peak, according to 10TV/WBNS.

Ripple effects

The Municipal Services Center lost power, forcing the city to cancel Mayor's Court scheduled for Aug. 13. Defendants will be contacted with new hearing dates, and no late-payment fees will be assessed this week. Online payments remain available.

Tremont Pool closed Tuesday and canceled Wednesday morning adult lap swim and water walking sessions scheduled from 6:30 to 10 a.m. The facility will reopen once conditions are safe.

Upper Arlington City Schools canceled classes Wednesday, which was to be the first day for students in grades 1-6 and 9th graders, plus kindergarten orientation. The district said Tuesday that if power is restored, school would resume Aug. 13, with an adjusted schedule.
