Chipping crews fanned out across Upper Arlington on Aug. 17, beginning the city's one-pass chipping program to clear tree debris left by the Aug. 11 storm that a city spokesperson said damaged 75 homes, according to NBC4.
The City of Upper Arlington announced on X that crews are working street by street and directed residents to a live tracking map showing when chippers will reach each neighborhood. The city's storm response page was updated at 8:30 a.m. the same morning.
The key detail: crews will make only one pass.
As we reported Aug. 12, any branches not at the curb before the chipper reaches a given block will not be collected through this program.
What qualifies
The program accepts tree branches only. No fencing, no general yard waste, no containers filled with debris. Branches must be no more than 10 inches in diameter and 12 feet long. The city asks residents to leave branches intact rather than cutting them into smaller pieces, which makes them harder to feed through the chipper machines.
Place branches as close to the street as possible without blocking sidewalks or the roadway. City crews will separately handle trees and limbs on public rights-of-way; residents are responsible for clearing private property.

Financial help available
The Upper Arlington Community Foundation's Good Neighbor Fund is accepting requests from residents who need financial assistance navigating the storm's impacts.
The city also maintains a separate interactive storm damage map where residents can see where crews are addressing reported issues. To report a problem not on that map, call the police non-emergency line at 614-459-2800.
