The Upper Arlington Community Foundation collected a share of registrations from the OhioHealth Grandview Yard Half & Quarter Marathon, held Aug. 23 in Grandview Heights.

The foundation again served as a race beneficiary, with a portion of each registration fee going to the UACF. Participants could also add a separate donation during sign-up, according to the race's charity page.

Runners and walkers chose among three distances: 13.1, 6.55 and 3.1 miles. The half marathon and quarter marathon started at 7 a.m. at Ray E. DeGraw Park in Grandview Yard, with the Purple Heart 5K following at 7:20 a.m. The course wound through Grandview Heights, Marble Cliff, Upper Arlington and Ohio State University's campus.

The event keeps growing. The 2025 edition drew more than 2,400 runners and walkers, more than double the 1,095 athletes who showed up for the inaugural race in 2022, according to M3S Sports, the race organizer. The event requires coordination among the cities of Grandview Heights, Upper Arlington and Columbus.

"This event is a true team effort," M3S Sports Race Director David Babner said in the organization's August 2025 recap of the fourth annual race. "It takes the dedication of our partners, city officials, sponsors, race crew volunteers, and the athletes themselves."

After crossing the finish line, participants and families gathered at the park for the Byers Xtra Mile Finish Line Party, which featured live music and food from sponsors including Jet's Pizza and Panera.

The UACF thanked M3S Sports, runners, volunteers and supporters in a post-race statement, saying the morning was a chance to connect with the community and cheer on participants of every age and ability.

The foundation, led by Executive Director Jessica Grisez, also runs the Good Neighbor Fund, a separate program established in 2017 that provides one-time emergency grants of up to $3,000 to Upper Arlington residents facing unexpected hardship. The fund has distributed more than $100,000, according to the foundation's website. Grants can cover living expenses, utilities, medical fees, home repairs and transportation.

The Good Neighbor Fund is accepting applications from UA residents who experienced damage from a storm that hit the area Wednesday, Aug. 12. Applicants must be referred through the UA CARES Program. Residents can reach the foundation at 614-451-0700.
