Five schools across Upper Arlington and Grandview Heights are listed among those participating in Veterans Day recognitions this November, according to CityScene Magazine.
Upper Arlington High School will hold a Service Members' Appreciation Luncheon on Friday, Nov. 13, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the school, 1625 Zollinger Road. Service members will share a meal with small groups of students, who will have the chance to ask questions and hear about their guests' time in the military, according to the city's event listing. The RSVP deadline for service members was Nov. 5. Those with questions can contact Amanda Strine at [email protected] or Taylor Naples at [email protected].
Jones Middle School and Hastings Middle School are also among the local schools taking part, according to CityScene Magazine. The two UA middle schools have a long-standing tradition of welcoming veterans for annual celebrations, according to the UA Schools district. Eighth-graders at both schools use the events to learn about the role of veterans in American history.
In a district video published in November 2024, Drew, a Hastings Middle School student, said: "This is a huge honor for all the kids here to be around all these veterans that have helped our country and served our country."
In Grandview Heights, both Grandview Heights High School and Stevenson Elementary are listed among central Ohio schools participating in Veterans Day recognitions, CityScene reported.
The UA district described its Veterans Day events as part of a broader service-learning commitment. In a December 2024 report, the district said students in grades six through 12 contributed more than 44,000 hours of community service in 2024.
CityScene's roundup also lists Veterans Day ceremonies in Powell, Dublin, Westerville and Hilliard for residents looking for additional ways to honor service members across central Ohio.
