Five dogs are vying to become Grandview Heights' first-ever Dog Mayor. Residents have until 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, to pick a winner.

The contest, a partnership between the City of Grandview Heights and The Wag, an indoor and outdoor dog park and bar, drew 93 nominations before a selection committee narrowed the field to five finalists, CW Columbus reported. That committee included two representatives from The Wag and three from the city, according to WSYX.

The finalists: D'artagnan, known as D'art, Hank, Kiki, River and Tater.

Each candidate has a platform. D'art is campaigning for accessible sidewalks and an end to "no dogs on the furniture" policies. Hank wants to expand pup-friendly patios and make sure smaller dogs "get a fair shot at the biggest sticks." Kiki is running on a "Cheese Tax" for humans and more Milk-Bone stops around the city. River promises daily whipped cream pup cups and weekly block parties. Tater is pushing for more biscuits, a longer dog swim season and what she calls "keeping the pressure on unlicensed squirrels."

The Wag owner Casie Myer and Grandview Heights Mayor Greta Kearns appeared on Good Day Columbus with several of the finalists to promote the race.

Only Grandview Heights residents are eligible to vote. The ballot is available through a Google Form linked on the city's website and The Wag's pages.

The winning dog will be announced and sworn in at a ceremony at The Wag on Friday, Oct. 9, at 4:30 p.m. Once in office, the new Dog Mayor will attend the city's dog-focused events throughout the year.
