Joey Sexton's bar pies got too popular for his own kitchen. Now they have a 1,784-square-foot home of their own at 200 W. Lane Ave.

Uncle Frico's Pizza, a new concept from the founder of Sexton's Pizza, is already taking pickup and delivery orders on the ground floor of the Rambler Columbus complex in the Lane Avenue district, with a grand opening still to come this month. The restaurant specializes in thin-crust, pan-baked bar pies with a caramelized "frico" cheese edge — the same style that Sexton's had to pull from its menu after demand surged.

"I have been sitting on this idea since we had to take these off the menu after the Barstool rating," Joey Sexton told NBC4 in late July. "We didn't have oven space. We're excited for game days and serving the campus area!"

That Barstool moment: Dave Portnoy rated Sexton's Pizza an 8.1 out of 10 in his One Bite review series and called it his favorite in Ohio. Customers flooded in, and the brothers ran out of oven capacity for the labor-intensive bar pies.

Joey and Jamey Sexton, both military veterans, launched Sexton's in 2016 from a $6,000 food trailer with a goal of making Ohio's crunchiest pizza. They now operate five Sexton's locations across Central Ohio.

What to expect

The Lane Avenue spot will offer dine-in, grab-and-go, and online ordering. One distinctive feature: an order window connecting directly into Victory Lap, the sports bar next door inside the Rambler complex, so patrons can get pizza without leaving the bar.

Rambler Columbus, a 379-unit student housing development by LV Collective, opened in 2025 and houses more than 800 residents. Its ground-floor retail strip also includes coffee shop Daydreamer and breakfast spot Bagels & Co.

Cody Weiss, LV Collective's vice president of asset management, said in a statement reported by Columbus Underground on Monday, August 3, that the company is "confident their new concept will be a great addition to both the property and surrounding neighborhood."

Lane Avenue's dining lineup keeps growing

Uncle Frico's isn't the only new Italian-leaning option headed to the Lane Avenue corridor. Piccolo Buco, a Rome-inspired concept from Cooper's Hawk Winery and Restaurant, has signed a lease for roughly 7,600 square feet at The Shops on Lane Avenue in Upper Arlington, according to NBC4. That restaurant is expected to open in 2027.
