Upper Arlington residents along Northwest Boulevard will lose driveway access for up to a week as crews tear out and replace the roadway starting the week of Sept. 28.

The city announced the segment-by-segment closure schedule on Thursday, Sept. 17. Three stretches of Northwest Boulevard between Five Points and Wilshire Boulevard will shut down to through traffic one at a time, moving north to south:

  • Five Points to Zollinger Road: approximately 14 days
  • Zollinger Road to Ridgeview Road: approximately 9 days
  • Ridgeview Road to Wilshire Boulevard: approximately 11 days

The Zollinger Road intersection will stay open for most of the first segment's work, closing only briefly at the end for final paving.

During each closure, drivers will be detoured to Kenny Road. The city said a local detour will also route traffic around each active work zone.

The full-depth reconstruction is the final major stage of the Northwest Boulevard project, which began Aug. 3 and covers the corridor from Wilshire Boulevard to Five Points. The project includes replacing the roadway, curbs, gutters and driveway aprons.

Crews have already finished curb and driveway apron work on the east side of the street and shifted to the west side as of Sept. 17. That stage is expected to wrap up by the end of September. Some residents are already dealing with temporary driveway shutoffs lasting five to seven days while the west-side curb work continues.

Once full road closures begin, homeowners whose driveways fall inside an active work zone will lose access for about one week and will need to park on nearby streets. The city said the contractor will give advance notice to affected residents and businesses before each restriction takes effect.

The schedule is tentative. Weather and construction conditions could shift the timeline.

Northwest Boulevard is one of several major corridors feeding the Five Points intersection. As we reported Sept. 16, the city is studying a redesign of Five Points itself, with detailed design hoped for 2027 and construction in 2028.

No public meeting date or comment deadline specific to the Northwest Boulevard project has been announced.
