Full road closures on Northwest Boulevard in Upper Arlington will start the week of Oct. 5, one week later than planned.
The city announced the delay on Friday, Sept. 25, on its official X account, citing weather conditions earlier in the week. The city had announced on Wednesday, Sept. 23, that full closures would begin the week of Sept. 28.
The closures mark the final phase of the Northwest Boulevard Reconstruction Project, which stretches between Wilshire Drive and the Five Points intersection. Crews will remove and replace the full depth of the roadway, according to a city news flash.
The work is expected to continue through October and into November.
Three sections, north to south
The city plans to close Northwest Boulevard in three sections, moving from north to south:
- South of Five Points to Zollinger Road: approximately 14 days
- South of Zollinger Road to Ridgeview Road: approximately 9 days
- South of Ridgeview Road to Wilshire Drive: approximately 11 days
The Zollinger Road intersection will stay open for most of the first closure phase. It will close briefly at the end of that phase while crews finish final paving.
Each section will be fully closed to through traffic for roughly one to two weeks. During each closure, through traffic will detour via Kenny Road. A local detour will also be available around each work area.
Where the project stands
Before the full closures begin, crews have already completed curb, gutter and driveway apron work on the east side of Northwest Boulevard. Work shifted to the west side, with that stage expected to wrap up by the end of September. Some residents on the west side are temporarily losing driveway access for five to seven days during that work.
Driveway access limited during closures
Residents along Northwest Boulevard will keep access to their driveways whenever possible. When work is directly in front of a home, driveway access will be unavailable for about one week. Residents affected will need to park on nearby streets.
The overall schedule is tentative and may shift again due to weather or construction conditions. The contractor will work with the city to give advance notice before restricting driveway access to any home or business along the corridor.
