Upper Arlington residents can meet police K-9s, climb aboard a fire truck and try their hand at archery at Northam Park on Aug. 4, when the city hosts its annual National Night Out from 6 to 8 p.m.

The free, all-ages event puts neighbors face-to-face with the officers and firefighters who serve them daily. The Upper Arlington Police Division promoted the gathering on X Tuesday morning, saying it looks forward to seeing residents at Northam Park.

Here's what families will find, according to the city's event announcement:

Vehicles and demonstrations

The Upper Arlington Fire Division will park a ladder truck and other apparatus for kids and adults to explore. An interactive smoke house will walk families through escaping a smoke-filled home. Mounted patrol horses and a police K-9 will also be on hand.

Activities

The Ohio Division of Wildlife is bringing its archery trailer for hands-on target practice. Upper Arlington Parks & Recreation will run soccer activities, and younger visitors can line up for face painting, balloon art and giveaways from public safety agencies and community partners.

Food

Five vendors will serve the crowd: Roosters, Rolling Bistro Street Kitchen, Graeter's Ice Cream, Kona Ice and Drank Tank.

No admission or registration is required.

The national campaign, founded in 1984, is in its 43rd year. It brings communities together with local law enforcement on the first Tuesday each August.

The event is organized by the Upper Arlington Police Division, led by Police Chief Keith Hall, and the Upper Arlington Fire Division, led by Fire Chief Greg Eisenacher.
