Upper Arlington will lay out a decade of stormwater improvement projects at a public meeting Sept. 22.

The city is hosting a Stormwater Master Plan meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bob Crane Community Center, 3200 Tremont Road. A presentation begins at 6 p.m., followed by an open house where residents can talk with the planning team, according to the city's event listing.

The session will cover drainage projects the city plans to carry out over the next 10 years.

Why it matters

Upper Arlington is a landlocked, fully built-out city, and its undersized storm sewer system has struggled to handle recent high-intensity storms. A city request for proposals issued in June 2025 described the system as "undersized" and cited "recent high-intensity storm events" as a driving concern.

The city hired a consultant to develop the Stormwater Master Plan, with work expected to begin by Aug. 1, 2025, and a final plan due within 12 months. The plan's scope includes reviewing historic rainfall data, cataloging past flooding problems in partnership with the Franklin Soil and Water Conservation District, and ranking projects by priority with cost estimates.

If authorized, the plan could also recommend changes to the city's stormwater utility fee, which funds drainage infrastructure.

What's already underway

Some stormwater work is already moving. The city's 2026 Capital Improvement Program includes stormwater improvements on Langport Road and Ridgeview Road as part of a $1.54 million street maintenance program. A separate $2.2 million street reconstruction project on Ridgeview Road also includes sidewalk and stormwater upgrades.

The Sept. 22 meeting follows a spring open house held April 7 at the same location. In a March 31 post on X, the City of Upper Arlington said flooding and drainage issues are becoming more common and urged residents to share input.

The Stormwater Master Plan is one of several infrastructure efforts on the city's fall agenda. The city's September/October newsletter noted that the Sept. 14 City Council meeting, led by Council President Ukeme Awakessien Jeter, would include a presentation on the proposed Five Points Intersection Improvements and resolutions of support for Henderson Road and Zollinger Road projects.

How to participate

The Sept. 22 meeting is open to all residents and area businesses. No registration has been announced. The Bob Crane Community Center is at 3200 Tremont Road.
